RV Shipments Continue to Rise through 2018 Inching Slightly Above 2017 Level

RV wholesale shipments are expected to reach 505,900 units by the end of 2018, a slight increase over the 504,599 units shipped in 2017, according to the new quarterly projection from Dr. Richard Curtin in the RV Industry Association’s spring issue of the RV RoadSigns forecasting newsletter.

This anticipated growth would mark the ninth consecutive year of expansion for the RV market, eclipsing the previous record of five years set from 2002-2006.

“RV shipments have experienced incredible gains year after year for nearly a decade, and this new industry data indicates the total number of shipments will continue to hover near or exceed the half-million-mark next year,” said Frank Hugelmeyer, president of the RV Industry Association.

RV INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION’S 2017 PROFILE

The RV Industry Association published the 2017 Industry Profile, which provides a detailed look at RV production and shipment statistics, including historical comparisons of shipment figures and dollar volume as well as production breakdowns by product type and shipment destination.

Key findings from the research include:

  • Wholesale RV shipments reached their highest annual level on comparable record at 504,600 units, a 17.2% increase over 2016.
  • The total retail value of those shipments exceeded $20 billion, a 13.4% percent increase over the $17.7 billion in 2017.
  • Indiana overwhelmingly continues to lead the country in RV production, manufacturing nearly 83% of all RVs in the U.S.
  • Texas remains the top destination for RV shipments, receiving 9.5% of total RV wholesale shipments followed by California (7.3%), Florida (5.3%), Ohio and Michigan (both at 3.9%).

An analysis of the industry’s production highlights and demographic information focusing on the RV consumer are also included in the publication.
